Chara Krangle is A Badass

Chara Krangle wears many hats.

She's a nutritionist, a community builder, and most recently, one half of the brains behind Oat of the Ordinary, a super-food oatmeal mix made for the conscious busy bee.

We sat down with her to learn more about what its been like co-founding a new business, and to glean some of her health minded tips as we head into one of the busiest years of the season.

Tell us a bit about you.
I'm the co-founder of Oat of the Ordinary and holistic nutritionist. I'm an animal lover and the mom to 2 VERY needy kitties. I love being active and in the outdoors, I try to see the good in everything and everyone and I believe my mission in life is to serve and support people in any way that I can. Right now, that is supporting people with their wellness journeys starting with a nutrient-dense easy-to-make breakfast!

Tell us about Oat of the Ordinary and what inspired you to start your business.
I've been an oatmeal fan for years and always created a protein-superfood oatmeal mix that I would bring with me everywhere and recommend that my clients do the same. This way they always have a satiating, healthy breakfast on hand simply by mixing it with hot water. For years, I'd post it on my social media sharing this 'travel-hack'. I loved seeing the comments and messages come through of people saying how this 'needs to be a product!' When COVID hit, and I wasn't travelling for work as much anymore, I decided to lean into this idea. I called up my girlfriend and now co-founder, Vanessa and we started to have focus groups, sent out surveys and did months of R & D. 9 months later we launched Oat of the Ordinary.

How did you get into this?
Being a holistic nutritionist, I have always wanted to help people make clean eating more attainable, even for those with the busiest of schedules. Launching Oat of the Ordinary has provided an easy solution for those who value their health as much as they value their time. What a gift to turn an idea into a business and to impact people's lives for the better.

What's been the most fun part about starting your business?
I'm a creative so I have loved designing the packaging and seeing it come to life. I also LOVE meeting members of our "commun-oaty" and hearing how they found us and the role our oatmeal plays in their daily routine.

What about the most challenging?
Every day there's a new lesson to be learned and that isn't always easy. I'm consistently stepping out of my comfort zone and learning something new while running a business and working a part-time job.

What has Oat of the Ordinary taught you about yourself?
This journey so far has taught me to be incredibly resourceful (leaning on the CPG community to connect and share experiences) and that rejection isn't always a bad thing. Many times when something hasn't worked out for us, it has meant something even better is just around the corner.

What's been the most important thing to keep in mind while you juggle your business and all of life's responsibilities?
Trying to find joy in every day. Building a business is so full on and it's easy to get overwhelmed and run yourself into the ground. I try to take weekends to connect with the people who mean the most to me while being as present as possible.

Think about yourself in the first month after you launched your business: what advice do you have for her?
Take time to build the foundation and processes of the business and don't rush into big decisions.

What do you do to nourish yourself (Both in life and nutritionally)?
Nutritionally, I start every day with a large glass of warm lemon water followed by a big bowl of Oat of the Ordinary- I believe I eat and enjoy it more than anyone else in our community!

What kind of snacks do you go for?
I try to stick to whole foods for snacks. Fruit and veggies mainly. Or something with ingredients that I know and love.

What do you look for in a snack?
Something that's quick, easy, and tastes delicious (hint- BIG Chiwi's fan over here!)
