What Is upcycled fruit, and why do you use upcycled fruits in Chiwis?

Upcycled fruit is fruit that isn't perfectly shaped for sale in grocery stores, and would potentially go to a landfill if there wasn't a way to use it. We source our fruits from farmers and are happy to take their upcycled fruits (especially kiwis) that may not be the perfect shape. They're still super delicious!

Why do you keep the skin on the fruit for Chiwis?

Often the skin of the fruit holds loads of nutrients and fiber that we are throwing away when peeling or cutting it off. The skin of the kiwi holds much of the vitamin C, triples the fiber content, and gives our kiwi chips the tang that you taste. The skin on our Mango chips is full of fiber, and by not cutting that skin off we are reducing waste. The core of the pineapple is used in our Pina chips as it is still delicious and after we have prepared it with a special manner to soften it, it's fully edible and increases the fiber in our chips! Lastly, the beautiful Orange chips include the rind which provides a large amount of fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. And as always we're reducing waste by keeping the skin and not disgarding it in our processes.

Why did you start with kiwis?

Kiwis are a superfood that aren’t usually seen in the snack aisle and we wanted to change that... One serving of original Chiwis has more vitamin C than two oranges and more potassium than two bananas!

How many kiwis are in a package of original and tropical Chiwis?

Kiwis vary in size, but there are about 4 full kiwis per full package of Chiwis Original flavour, and 2 full kiwis in Chiwis Tropical flavour.

Are Chiwis gluten free?

Chiwis are 100% gluten free. The only ingredients we use in Chiwis are fresh fruits. Our production facilities are gluten free.

Are Chiwis vegan?

Chiwis are a vegan friendly snack that anyone can love. We don’t use any animal products in any of our recipes.

Are Chiwis paleo friendly?

They sure are. Chiwis are made with 100% paleo friendly ingredients for healthy snacking on the go.

Does the Chiwis process take nutrients away from the fruit?

Chiwis are made in a very special manner that keeps much more of the nutrients in the chip than conventional dehydration methods... about 3.5 times the amount of fiber, vitamins, and minerals per gram than fresh fruit.

What types of vitamins are found in kiwis?

Kiwis are full of nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin E, folate, and potassium... The fiber in kiwis helps digestion, and the antioxidants in this superfruit can help reduce the risk of oxidative DNA damage.

Chiwis are a natural product and we process very minimally... sometimes some pieces with a bit of stem sneak through.
